Barely three weeks after Nollywood actress, Chioma Toplis was ‘abducted’ in a commando style by some men dressed as security agents at her Lagos-based fashion house, new twists are coming out of the matter. The Nigeria Police high command in Abuja has waded into the matter having realized that the security officers, who stormed Lagos for the action, were on an illegal mission from Umuahia, Abia State, under the instruction of Chief James Akwukwaegbu, fondly called Oga Bawas in the Umuahia social circles.

Credible sources revealed that Chief James Akwukwaegbu is now wanted for kidnap, having orchestrated that illegal mission with the ‘unknown’ security agents; and to this end  a team of police men was on Tuesday  afternoon dispatched from the Abuja office of DCP Abba Kyari (who captured alleged serial kidnapper, Evans) to arrest Chief Akwukwaegbu at Umuahia.

An eyewitness at Hon Nkem Uche Street, Amuzukwu, Ibeku Umuahia, which harbours Chief Akwukwaegbu’s compound said the men from Abba Kyari’s office stormed the house at about 2pm on Tuesday, rattling the hitherto serene neighbourhood.

“I have not seen that kind of thing before. Many of us were afraid, seeing those men bearing arms in our neighbourhood. Many people fled the scene but news soon got around that they were from the IGP Response Team, IRT, and have come in connection with the case of kidnapping involving one actress, Chioma Toplis in Lagos. But the man they came for, whom we call Bawas was not at home. The police men waited for him for long before leaving his compound. People said some influential people intervened so that they will not humiliate Bawas who is the husband of Hon Grace Uche, a former member of the Abia State House of Assembly. They did not want to put him in handcuffs before everybody. Later we heard that Bawas has been instructed to report to the IRT Office in Abuja on Tuesday, July 13”, the source said.
