Lagosians mourn as Jakande dies at 91


Residents of Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub have been thrown into a mournful mood, following the death of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, erstwhile former Governor of the state, who passed on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the age of 91.

His death was announced by Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu who said: “With gratitude to God for a worthy life well spent in the service of Lagos State, Nigeria and humanity, I announce the death of a venerable statesman, outstanding politician, public administrator and the first Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande”.

Jakande’s reign as the Governor of Lagos State, has been described as epochal with signatures of accountability, service delivery and good governance, largely seen as unequalled till date.
